English Class for Spanish Speakers
Have you ever been in another country where you didn't speak the language? If you have, you probably remember how scary even the simplest interactions can be. It is so wonderful in that situation to have someone who is willing to help you learn your way around and help you learn essential phrases, so you can do everyday tasks.
The same is true for people coming to our country. As more Spanish speakers come to the North Liberty area, we were asked to help them feel at home here by hosting an English class at the church. We said yes and started a 10 week class on Monday nights. We offer child care as well as a group class and individual mentoring.
We need your help to reach out and welcome our neighbors. You do not need to be able to speak Spanish, but if you do, all the better. We need help with:
Mentoring:
Help students during class (6:30-8:00)
Child care:
Take care of students' children during class (6:30-8:00)
Transportation:
Pick up students and take them home (6:00-6:30 and 8:00-8:30)
