We participate in the Iowa City Free Lunch Program. This is a community service project located at the Wesley House in downtown Iowa City. The people that come to the lunch are very appreciative. It is a rewarding volunteer activity. When you see the men, women and children that we serve, you will understand why this program is so essential. We provide the lunch for 100-130 people in the area, every month that has a 5th Friday (this is about 4 times a year).
We rely on donated main dishes from church volunteers. Food can be brought to the church the morning of the event. It is picked up by 10:00 AM and brought to the Wesley House. We supplement with produce, rolls and desserts from the Iowa City Table to Table program.
Serving this meal requires 10-12 servers. Servers work 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This allows time for the meal prep and clean up after the meal.
